Choose a look before the edit
A late train arrives under fluorescent light. You could record a neutral file and decide its mood days later, or choose a Film Simulation while you are there and see the color shape the shot. Fujifilm's dial makes that choice physical and immediate; it is an invitation to develop a visual voice, not a promise that one preset fits every scene.
The 26.1MP APS-C sensor records 6.2K/30p in 3:2, 10-bit 4:2:2 open gate. That taller frame leaves room to make a horizontal sequence and a vertical excerpt from one take. A lens is still required, and its size and price change the character of the kit.
Color is only one part of the shot
The X-M5 has digital video stabilization rather than in-body stabilization; 4K60 also uses a tighter sensor area. If most of your film follows someone on foot, compare it with the mechanically stabilized Pocket 3 or the stabilized Sony α6700 before choosing for the dial alone.

Fujifilm puts its photographic color heritage within reach of a dedicated dial. The X-M5 also records a tall 3:2 open-gate frame, useful when the same scene may become a horizontal film and a vertical excerpt. It is a capable video camera with an intentional look, though steady handheld movement asks more of the lens or the operator.
