Keep the whole scene for later
Picture a conversation in a narrow room. You might need a wide horizontal frame for a film, then a vertical crop for a shorter piece. The S9's 6K, 3:2 open-gate mode records more height than a standard 16:9 video frame, allowing both versions to come from one take. Its full-frame sensor and interchangeable lenses also give you room to choose the perspective and depth of field.
Panasonic's Real Time LUT workflow lets you preview and apply a color look in camera. Five-axis body stabilization helps with handheld work, though it does not reproduce the controlled movement of a gimbal.
The compact-body bargain
The S9 has no eye-level viewfinder and uses an electronic shutter for stills; 4K60 crops to an APS-C-size area. Panasonic later made the original fixed recording-time limit optional in firmware, but heat can still stop a long take. Choose it for its full-frame open-gate and color workflow, with those boundaries understood.

The S9 is Panasonic's attempt to make a full-frame filmmaking camera feel like an everyday object. It brings 6K open gate, five-axis stabilization, and Real Time LUT color into a compact body. The small body has real compromises, especially for still photography and high-frame-rate video.
